SSX Blur shows developers how to make a truly awesome game whilst taking advantage of the motion controllers that the Nintendo Wii possesses. There are a lot of games out there but few surpass SSX Blur for the sheer ease of use that the Wii controller brings to it.
In SSX Blur your board is controlled almost exclusively by the nunchuck, you steer by tilting it left and right and push the analogue stick backwards and forwards to accelerate and brake for those all important moves. This tilting system is just about perfect and you really feel involved as you make that board slice into the snow and bite on the underlying ice.
Once you master this the remote comes into action for big air spills and thrills. Flipping the controller to the left or right sends your board into a spin, whilst up and down make him perform backflips and somersaults. Wii owners are known for there sense of humour and this game delivers, scoop up snow and you can throw snowballs at other players. You won't get that in other games.
Uber tricks are awesome and what makes games like this stand out and SSX Blur has them in bucketloads. Charge up your groove meter and wave that remote like you just don't care. Get plenty of air and perform big O's with your remote to watch your character cartwheel across some of the biggest jumps of any game.
With gorgeous snow effects, fog and solar glare, detailed characters and a pumping soundtrack the exceptional graphics and sounds just add to the ultimate gameplay this game brings to your Nintendo Wii. SSX Blur is one of the best there is, a veritable audio and visual treat packed up with an excellent controller which will absorb you into the action like no other game on any other games platform would.
The only negative side to this game is the way it has built on it's heritage. There is very little in gameplay which is new and we have seen it all before. Some of the tracks have been lifted from previous versions of the game, albeit with a few additional runs thrown in. Don't let this put you off though, you will have never played another snow boarding game which immerses you so completely into the gameplay as this does.
The major competition for this game is 1080 snowboarding and either of these two games would take pride of place within your games collection. SSX Blur takes some beating and I am sure it will be down to personal preference as to which is better. |
